September 8 is a very special day for Kruševo. It marks not only the independence of the young Macedonian nation in the year 1991, but is also the day on which Kruševo was liberated from the fashist rule of the Bulgarian occupation in the year 1944. Each year at the annual commemoration of September 8, the City of Kruševo awards a price to a person or an organization which has shown outstanding commitment and dedication for the benefit of the city and its inhabitants. This year, the Municipal Council had decided unanimously to award this price to our association Gemeinden Gemeinsam Biel-Seeland and honor this way the long standing partnership between the Swiss region Biel-Seeland and the Macedonian region of Kruševo. For the first time ever, the award of September 8 was thus given to abroad. The distinction was awarded in dignified surroundings in the great hall of the veterans building at midday of September 8. The commemoration started with an address of the Mayor of Kruševo, Mrs. Lefkija Gažoska, underlining the historical importance of the day for the town. Thereafter the President of the Municipal Council, Mr. Blagoja Blagaduša, read the official resolution of the Municipal Council concerning this year's award and then handed the award to the GGBS committee member present at the celebration, Heinz Spiess, in the form of a certificate and a commemorative medal containing Kruševo emblem. After the official ceremony, which was concluded with presentations of students of the Nikola Karev School, the party moved down into Šape's Restaurant, where Nikola Zdraveski and his crew had prepared an oppulent cold buffet. Our association is extremely happy to have received this honor and likes to sincerily thank the Municipality of Kruševo.
